Thank you for joining us for our September edition of Hollaway Highlights! We are excited to share some of our recent accomplishments with you, our dear clients, colleagues, and friends!
Over the summer, we have been collaborating with our clients and project delivery partners to meaningfully incorporate equity into the project planning process, as well as conducting a variety of surveys in the field (and streams!). We have also continued to improve on the ways in which we engage our project stakeholder communities and host effective engagement opportunities. Please keep scrolling to read more!
As we are entering the final quarter of 2024, Hollaway’s 30th anniversary celebrations are coming to a close. With that, we are beyond grateful to the leaders of the City of Houston for recognizing our firm for 30 years of service here in our hometown! On September 24, Mayor Whitmire and Councilmember Abbie Kamin honored Hollaway Environmental + Communications Services with a proclamation, officially heralding that day as “Hollaway Day” in our beloved city! What an incredible form of recognition?! Claire, Jennifer, and I could not be more proud of the achievements of this incredible team at Hollaway!
Thank you again for spending your spare time with us as you enjoy this newsletter, and we are always looking forward to our next opportunity to connect with you.
Sending you light, love, health, and lots of laughter as we enter this next season!
Sincerely, Leslie

The Nationwide Rivers Inventory (NRI) is a compilation of over 3,200 free-flowing river segments in the U.S., recognized for having one or more "outstandingly remarkable" values. These NRI-listed river segments are considered potential candidates for the National Wild and Scenic River System. This summer, Hollaway spent several days in the picturesque Texas Hill Country conducting protected species habitat evaluations, waters of the U.S. delineations, and qualitative freshwater mussel surveys on a segment of the Guadalupe River that is included in the NRI. Additionally, the project area falls within the proposed critical habitat for two mussel species.
Our biologists carried out these surveys under a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) permit, adhering to both TPWD and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service survey protocols. This work is part of an ongoing statewide environmental contract held by Hollaway.
North Canal High Flow Diversion Channel Project
Hollaway recently hosted a well-attended public meeting for the North Canal project, a vital initiative to reduce flood risks in Houston’s downtown and surrounding areas by improving flood management along White Oak and Buffalo Bayous. The Hollaway communications team created an informative fact sheet for the meeting, providing a clear overview of the project’s objectives, design phases, and future milestones. This fact sheet was instrumental in fostering a productive dialogue between stakeholders and the community, ensuring everyone left with a comprehensive understanding of the project’s impact and progress.
In the complex world of environmental justice, effective communication is not just important—it is essential. Environmental justice seeks to ensure that all communities, particularly those historically marginalized, have equal access to a healthy environment and are not disproportionately burdened by environmental hazards. At the heart of this mission is the need for clear, transparent, and inclusive communication. Hollaway Environmental + Communications Services exemplifies this through our comprehensive approach, ensuring that every stakeholder is heard, and every project is executed with a deep sense of responsibility and care.
